Les Palais
Various performance “islets” are scattered over an area adjoining the Caserne Saint-Nicolas, a former fire station in Quebec City’s Old Port. They are made up diverse vehicles, containers, machines and huts inhabited by seemingly isolated beings doing what they have to do. Their actions are filmed individually and projected on the facade of the Caserne Saint-Nicolas, like rooms of house that can be seen through the walls. The sounds are also recorded and redirected to a listening area. Over the course of their walk-through, between cacophony and intense moments of communion, participants come to realise that each action contributes to the performance of a single piece of music.
